Bradley Boyle, Manager Corporate Services

Brad has extensive experience working as in-house legal counsel and company secretary for listed and unlisted mining and exploration companies.

Brad has joined Balance Legal to manage the Corporate Services team and is currently undertaking the Chartered Secretaries Australia, Corporate Governance qualification - the Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance.

Brad has a diverse range of corporate and private practice experience acting for mining, commercial and government clients across a broad range of industries. He also has extensive litigation experience including representing clients in mediations as well as appearing in Federal Court, Supreme Court, District Court and lower courts and tribunals.

Emma Braun, Senior Lawyer

Emma has extensive commercial experience in both private practice and in-house corporate roles.

Emma commenced her career at Freehills in Melbourne practising in the areas of intellectual property, information technology and telecommunications. Emma has most recently worked as General Counsel and Company Secretary at Mincom Pty Ltd with responsibility for providing legal advice on a wide variety of information technology and other general corporate matters to various business units within the organisation.

Julia Devlin, Lawyer

Julia has a broad range of commercial experience with particular expertise in the resources and infrastructure sectors.

Julia commenced her career at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in Perth, before moving to London where she was an Associate at Reed Smith in the Corporate and Finance Practice Group. Julia has most recently worked as a solicitor at DLA Phillips Fox in Perth, practising in the Mining, Energy and Infrastructure Group.

 

Nancy Howard, Senior Lawyer

Nancy has a wide range of experience in corporate and commercial law and litigation having practiced at two national law firms and, most recently, at her own firm.

Nancy has worked in the areas of banking and finance, insolvency, trade practices litigation, contractual negotiations, dispute resolution and product liability.

 

Robyn Kilmurray, Senior Lawyer

Robyn has broad corporate experience in the resources, financial and commercial property sectors having previously worked as a Senior Associate at national firm, Mallesons Stephen Jacques.

Robyn has more recently undertaken a secondment at Chevron Australia Pty Ltd providing legal support on Chevron’s Gorgon Gas Project.

Brendan Kilpatrick, Lawyer

Brendan has broad commercial experience with particular expertise in the property sector.

Brendan has most recently worked as an in-house lawyer at Great Southern Limited where he was responsible for a broad range of commercial matters relating to that company’s managed investment schemes. Prior to his role at Great Southern, Brendan worked at Clark Whyte Lawyers, a specialist property practice.

Vincent Lau, Senior Lawyer

Vincent has extensive private practice and in-house experience having formerly been a Senior Associate at Freehills and more recently Senior Legal Counsel at Great Southern. 

Vincent has considerable commercial experience across a range of practice areas including corporate, commercial, banking and finance, construction and property projects and insolvency.

 

Eve Metcalfe, Senior Lawyer

Eve has extensive experience in the finance, property and construction sectors.

Eve has most recently worked as a senior solicitor at Freehills practising in the projects division where she was responsible for a wide range of corporate transactions and projects.  Eve has also practiced in the UK specialising in the area of mergers and acquisition.

 

Simone Muller, Senior Lawyer

Simone has extensive experience in the mining and resources, corporate, commercial and intellectual property sectors.

She has acted for a wide range of publicly listed companies, focussing on the resources industry and has particular expertise in native title, aboriginal heritage and access issues having negotiated numerous land access arrangements. Simone commenced her legal career with the National Native Title Tribunal has most recently worked as a Senior Associate with Allion Legal, a boutique law firm specialising in capital raisings, IPOs, placements and rights issues.

Ly Nguyen, Senior Lawyer

Ly has a broad range of corporate and commercial experience specialising in the property and finance sectors.

y commenced her legal career at Freehills where she was a member of the Banking and Projects Group advising on major commercial property and financing transactions. More recently Ly was a member of Freshfields Structured and Asset Finance Group in Freshfields’ German office.

Jan Syminton, Senior Lawyer

Jan has broad experience in general commercial law and litigation.

Jan commenced her career in private practice specialising in commercial litigation at top tier firms, Freehills and Mallesons. Jan moved to an in-house role in 2008 dealing with general commercial, corporate regulation and Board compliance issues.

 

Helen Verrier, Senior Lawyer

Helen has over a decade’s experience working for global corporates in the petroleum, mining and energy sectors.  Helen was a senior associate with Allens Arthur Robinson prior to moving in-house in 2005.

Helen has worked on a broad range of matters relating to the exploration, development and production phases of mining and oil and gas projects in Australasia and Papua New Guinea, including: joint venture arrangements; long term gas sales contracts; unitisation agreements; and regulatory matters.  Helen has significant transaction experience in the sale and acquisition of petroleum assets and has also worked on wind energy projects.

Sarah Yates, Senior Lawyer

Sarah has extensive corporate and private practice experience in the resources and commercial sectors, specialising in the oil and gas sector.

Sarah has recently worked as a Senior Associate at Blake Dawson where she worked principally on natural gas sale and transportation arrangements, oil and gas joint ventures, LNG sale and purchase contracts, power purchase agreements and production sharing agreements. During her time with Blake Dawson Sarah was also seconded to ExxonMobil in Melbourne for 7 months dealing principally with the negotiation of upstream joint ventures. Prior to joining Blake Dawson, Sarah practiced in the UK including roles with the BG Group, commercial law firm Clyde and Co and oil and gas specialist, Denton Wilde Sapte.

Kate Barker, Lawyer

Kate is an experienced litigation lawyer with expertise in both large and small scale matters including numerous large mining and resources litigations, corporate and commercial actions, native title disputes, medical negligence and insurance claims. 

 

She has experience in all aspects of litigation from preparation of materials, discovery, proofing of witnesses, document management, as instructing solicitor and including appearances in various Courts and Tribunals and arbitrations and mediations. Prior to joining Balance, Kate was at the boutique litigation firm Maxim Litigation Consultants.
